If we only ever teach you one thing, let it be that a good sports bra will change your life. However, we appreciate that they can be a bit of a minefield. Which sports bras are best for high-performance activities? Which sports bras are best for yoga? What are the best high-support sports bras on the market? 'Help! I have a larger bust; which sports bras should I buy?' The list of questions goes on.

Having a good sports bra is one of the best investments you can make. You don't need us to tell you that your boobs weren't built with their own support unit, which means that sport can be a painful and uncomfortable experience at times. Not only that, but no one wants to spend more time focusing on whether their tit has popped out of their bra when they're mid downward dog, rather than the health benefits and the calm they should be experiencing.

Our girls often hurt during exercise because we put them under more pressure whilst moving that they don't usually experience on the average day. Having the right sports bra is important to help alleviate this pressure, especially during the time of the month, when our nipples and surrounding tissue might be more sensitive than other times. Being comfy is key!

It's important to remember that sports bras may differ between exercises and depending on the size of your chest. Sports bras generally come in three separate categories: high support, medium support, and low impact. This is where we get technical. Girls, do not, I repeat do not, wear your regular bra to a spin class. It's just not worth it. If you don't wear the correct sports bra for the exercise you are undertaking, then you could cause extreme damage to your breast tissue, and you certainly won't be performing to your best.

There are also two styles of sports bra. You'll need to decided whether you want separate cups, or just a tight squeeze around your whole bust. Having separated cups is called 'encapsulation', meaning that both boobs are held tight in their place during movement. Encapsulation styles are best for larger chests and/or sports where you'll be moving and jumping at lot. The other type is a compression bra. Compressive bras don't have separate cups; there is just tight material around the whole of the chest area. This style of sports bra is best for smaller boobs and exercise that is less intense.

Nike recommend asking the questions: 'What size am I?' and 'What exercise am I doing?' to help you find the right fit and support. If you are unsure on what bra size you are (and there is no shame in this!), then head down to your local bra shop and get yourself measured. Not got the time? Lucky we've created a guide on how you can measure your own bra size at home, cup size and band size included.

It's important to remember that even if you are only doing pilates or yoga, if you have bigger or heavier breasts you will still need a lot of support, despite these activities being classed as low intensity workouts.

If you like to run or jog, then we beg you buy a high-impact sports bra. We've listed a whole range of Nike's best high-impact sports bras below, with a guide to each of them so you can shop with confidence, knowing you are getting the exact product YOU need.

This high-support, padded, zip-front sports bra comes with a racerback design. This product combines everything you need from in-built, but removable, cups to a more supportive fit that will look good under a t-shirt, as well as including moisture-wicking technology and breathable comfort. It is also built to absorb sweat to avoid chafing and help you stay dry and comfortable. The racerback straps give support that is even across your back. The zip at the front also allows for the bra to be taken off and put on easily, as well as looking like a cute crop top in itself. The mesh allows for air to move in and out, whilst giving the ultimate support for running or intense HIIT classes.

Great for: Running & HIIT

Unlike the last bra, this bra features a hook-and-eye fastening and adjustable straps for that versatility. This running bra will provide more of a personal fit, as the moulded cups fit to your precise shape. The Dri-FIT technology keeps you comfortable during your work out and the mesh back allows for breathability during those high-impact workouts.

Great for: Running & HIIT

This high-support bra isn't padded like some of the options on this list, making it extremely comfortable. It's fitted with two hook-and-eye fastenings on the back and is ultra-lightweight. UltraBreathe technology means that your sweat vanishes! You'll hardly feel like you did a workout. High support leads to minimal bounce and extra layers means zero spillage, because no one has time for that. The flexible, contouring cups in this bra mean you feel a real personalised approach. This, paired with the adjustable straps, proves that strappy sports bras don't necessarily mean less support.

Great for: High-impact and high-energy workouts

Dancing? Spinning? You might want to opt for a medium-impact support sports bra to match your favourite sportswear, rather than a high-impact bra for ultimate functionality. Well, luckily for you these bras are both practical and cute! So you don't need to worry about them not matching your favourite leggings. C cups and below might also consider these bras the best option, as generally there is less movement than with bigger boobs.

An elastic band keeps this bra in place around the bottom of your bust, much like an underwire on a regular bra (but much more comfortable). If you're looking for a more sustainable option, this is the sports bra for you as it's made from at least 75% recycled polyester.

Great for: Dance & spin class

This sports bra is medium support and comes with one removable pad and a pocket! It's made from recycled fabrics and is built with sweat-wicking in mind.

Great for: Cycling & rowing

This bra is so comfortable. The thin, crossback straps can be adjusted to what you want and the removable pads can be disregarded at your leisure. Nike's Stealth Evaporation fabric (fancy, eh?) is the most comfortable of all of their sports bra fabrics. This design also has a cute v-shape neckline that is a little different to the ones listed above. Finally, this bra is designed to reduce the visibility of boob sweat, so you can stretch without feeling self conscious.

Great for: Yoga & pilates

For a sports bra you can wear day to day with any outfit, you may want to opt for a lightweight, low-impact sports bra that's got comfort written all over it. Think yoga or pilates-style sports bras. The last one in the list above would be ideal. You can find bras in white and neutral colours too to go with every top.

Nike and adidas are leaders in the sports bra field, definitely check out both of these websites before settling on your favourite.

If your workout is HIIT-style and there'll be a lot of jumping and running involved, then you'll definitely need a high-support sports bra that can take the pressure and won't lead to tissue damage or bruising around your bust.

Having a well-fitting sports bra comes with numerous health benefits. Sports bras are built to reduce movement during exercise. If your boobs are moving too much, this can damage the breast tissue or lead to some extreme back pain, which is not ideal and generally, not the aim of the game.
